Colon and rectal cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the U.S. and the nation’s second leading cause of cancer deaths. However colon cancer treatment is highly effective when colon and rectal cancer is diagnosed early.
University Health System colorectal surgeons in Las Vegas recommend that from the age of 40 and over, people should a colon screening or test like a digital rectal exam and undergo a stool sample test each year. For people 50 years of age and over, it is advisable to undergo direct imaging of the colon every five to ten years—either with a sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy exam.
