Dr. James Lau is a board certified bariatric surgeon in Las Vegas who specializes in weight loss surgery. He oversees a comprehensive, integrated approach for reducing obesity in Nevada, which includes a clinical practice, research efforts, and a prevention initiative that addresses childhood obesity.
Dr. Lau is chief of the Division of Bariatric Surgery at the University of Nevada School of Medicine Department of Surgery. He performs weight loss surgery including the gastric bypass and the Lap Band operations using laparoscopic surgery techniques. He has also trained in the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System.
Dr. Lau is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He currently serves as the assistant program director of general surgery.
Dr. Lau also performs trauma related surgeries and teaches courses in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 2002-2004 and he participated in "Operation Iraqi Freedom" as a general surgeon.
