Dr. Michael Jakoby attended the Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine in Missouri, completing a dual medical degree and master’s in biochemistry and molecular biophysics in 1995. He is chair of the University of Nevada School of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine in Las Vegas.
Dr. Jakoby is board-certified in both internal medicine and endocrinology.
He has held faculty positions in the Lipid Research Division at Washington University and the Divisions of Endocrinology and Nutritional Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign prior to coming to the University of Nevada. He served as academic section head of endocrinology at the University of Illinois and division chief of endocrinology at Carle Clinic Association while in Champaign-Urbana.
Dr. Jakoby’s primary clinical interest is diabetes management, and his primary research interest is hospital diabetology. His clinical research has focused on the impact of hyperglycemia and benefits of tight glycemic control for diabetic patients admitted to non-critical care hospital units. He has also collaborated with investigators at the Army Construction Engineers Research Laboratory to develop a thyroid follicular cell-based assay for rapid and accurate detection of perchlorate in water samples.
Dr. Jakoby has served on the editorial board of Carle Selected Papers, and he continues to edit Clinicopathological Conference cases for the journal. Jakoby holds professional memberships in the American Diabetes Association, Endocrine Society, and American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
