Mrs. Amy Ellwood has been a faculty member of the University of Nevada School of Medicine in Las Vegas since 1991. She completed her graduate education at the University of Michigan School of Social Work and postgraduate training in marital and family therapy, and sex therapy.
She is an American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy approved family therapy supervisor and clinician and an American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists certified sex therapist.
Before joining the School of Medicine, she practiced clinical social work and taught in a Michigan adult and child psychiatry residency program and was a trauma social worker in a large emergency medicine department in Detroit. Ellwood is author of numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and book reviews on sexuality, end of life issues and family violence. She has presented at professional family medicine and behavioral science meetings nationally and internationally.
At the family medicine department, she coordinates the behavioral science curriculum. She is a clinical/didactic instructor for family medicine and psychiatry residents as well as medical students.
Mrs. Ellwood has served on many community boards and committees including the State of Nevada Board of Social Work Examiners, the University of Michigan School of Social Work Board of Governors, the American Association of Social Work Boards Task Force on Clinical Supervision, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Excessive Use of Force Board, and Southern Nevada Domestic Violence Task Force.
