Following residency, Dr. John Varras joined the University of Nevada School of Medicine in 2000. He is board-certified in internal medicine.
Dr. Varras’ clinical interests include weight loss and weight management. He directs a medically-supervised weight loss program. The program integrates patient education, dietary modification, exercise, use of medications and assessment of surgical options. The program works together with the school’s University Weight Loss Surgery Center in Las Vegas. He evaluates and treats patients before and after bariatric surgery.
His other clinical interests include management and prevention of heart disease and diabetes. He is interested in primary and secondary prevention of heart disease by risk-factor modification, especially lipid management.
Dr. Varras provides care for diabetic patients and is interested in all aspects of this care including preventing and treating complications.
He is an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Nevada School of Medicine, as well as, interim chair of the medical school's internal medicine department in Las Vegas.
Dr. Varras is board certified in internal medicine and a member of the American College of Physicians, Association of Professors of Medicine, The Society of General Internal Medicine and Clerkship Directors in Internal Medicine.
